September Newsletter
WELCOME:- We hope you have all had a great summer and looking forward, as much as us, to have all our little ones back in nursery, ready to start the Autumn term curriculum activities. This month we have lots of new starters and children moving up into the next care rooms. The team will be focusing this month on helping them settle into their routine, getting to know us and we them.
We understand it can be daunting dropping your child off for their first session or moving up into a new care room but they are in great hands! The team will message you sending you regular updates on the app, photos etc. If you have any issues with the app, please let us know.
CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES: A really exciting theme for little ones to delve into is the ‘Me and My Family’ topic. Children get to explore all sort of interesting facts about where they come from, and understand what it means to be a part of a family. We will be exploring the home environment with the children, discussing what different family set-ups look like, where do they live, what do we look like etc. Learning about ‘Me’ is also looking at different types of body parts, counting them, describing them – using their hands, looking at eye colours and measuring everyone height to see who is the tallest or smallest. Looking at a wide range of books about homes, everyone’s feelings, different cultures etc.
SUPPORT AT HOME:- Look at photographs at home of who different family members are, mix in some family friends and ask if they can find certain people. Look at different buildings of where families live, can they create a picture of their house using different materials? such as Lego, colouring using pens/crayon, using craft materials or maybe playdough. A fun activity is draw around our bodies using chalks to compare shapes, this can be on large paper rolls, cardboard boxes or even the floor outside!
HELLO & WELCOME:-to new children starters; Ophelia & Kenzai in the Under 2’s room, Olivia, Lillie, Leyton, Mohammed Ismael and Dina in our Pre-School room and joining our Foundation class room is Muhammed. We hope you all have lots of fun with us!
CELEBRATIONS: - This month’s celebrations starts with ‘International Literacy Day’ on the 8th, as a nursery we love reading books, so let’s all read our favorite book that day! This will then lead us nicely on ‘Roald Dahl Day’ on the 13th September- who has lots of books, movies and tv shows. There is 5 days of science fun for the ‘British Science Festival’ where we will be joining in with exciting experiments that take place from 10th to 14th September. A super fun celebration this month is ‘Talk like a Pirate Day’ on 19th – let’s make it a challenge for everyone to talk like a pirate...’Ooh Arr!’ This year, the autumnal equinox begins on Monday 22nd, we officially enter autumn, losing an average of 4 minutes of sunshine every day until December 21, the winter solstice starts.
