July Newsletter
CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES: - This month’s topic is ‘travel and transport’, there are many exciting activities the children will be taking part in - such as making graph charts - who travels in a car, bus, taxi, bike or walks to nursery- lots of counting. Looking at books & videos of different modes of transport – lots of questions - what can they see? How is it used? Where can you go in them – to the supermarket? On holiday etc. Children can talk about their holiday experiences, what did they do? If they are going – what to expect. Making vehicles or airplanes etc. using junk models. The under-two’s children can mark make using pens taped to cars by drawing on large sheets of paper. Using musical instruments to recreate the sounds of vehicles, songs such as wheels on the bus. Lots of role play fun in fire stations, airports plus more!
Support at Home: - Many children love going on a bus or a train, just boarding a bus or a train can feel like the start of an adventure. This means creating opportunities for them to experience different forms of travel can be exciting. Children are likely to have plenty of questions and comments as they use public transport. They may point out different features or make connections about when and how they travel - use this as a talking point. This then moves onto the topic of Road safety- ‘Stop, Look and Listen’, talking about how important this is, showing them how to use the ‘Green man’ button, what colours they see on the traffic lights, what do they mean? Why not at home turn living room chairs into a pretend train or airplane, or set up a water-safe “car wash” using a basin, soap, and toy cars to promote sensory development and motor skills.
