CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES: Our learning topic this month is ‘Animal Kingdom’. Each care room will be taking part in age-appropriate activities for their children, to teach them about the other animals we share our planet with. Following the seven areas of the EYFS, we’re looking at our pets at home, to animals in the farmyard or the darkest jungle, what lives in the sea or on the plains of Africa. Discovering where they live, the sounds they make, their size and the colour and textures of their skin. The children have waited patiently for the chicken eggs to hatch and have now learned how to care for them, taking responsibility and showing empathy towards them. We have enjoyed watching the caterpillars munching away at their food, getting bigger and are all currently in the cocoon stage which is exciting, the next stage is for them to open into beautiful butterflies, which we will release in our garden. Watch this space it wont be long!
Support at Home:- Get the whole family having fun with this topic, looking at books together, animals in the field. Maybe plan a visit to the pet shop. Talk to your little one’s about the animals you see. Where does it live? What sound do they make? How many legs? What does it eat? Learning should be fun! We will post our curriculum planning outside the care rooms on the parent information board, providing ideas how you can support your child’s nursery education at home, or just ask a staff member.
DAY NURSERY AWARD:- We are delighted to say we have won the ‘Top 20 nursery award in Yorkshire & The Humber 2026’ for the 4th year running! A very big thank you to all parents, carers and families who have completed a review of the nursery. These really make a big impact on the team, hearing how we are doing! If you haven’t and would like to leave a review for the nursery and team, please do so on the ‘Day Nurseries’ website.
APPROPRIATE CLOTHING & FOOTWEAR:- This time of year brings an array of weather, cold winds, cool showers and high UV sunshine, sometimes in the same day! Consequently, please make sure your child can benefit from outdoor play, ideally with a sun hat, shower proof jacket and shoes, trainers or pumps for outdoors, but if you are thinking of going out for new summer footwear, NO OPEN TOED SANDALS for nursery please. They are a real tripping hazard for children during outdoor play and provide no protection for little toes! Ouch!! Please could children attend nursery with sun cream already on. Please don’t forget to put your child’s name in clothing items.
NURSERY IMPROVEMENTS:- Over the past 6 -12months, we have been doing improvements in the nursery, new floors all 3 care rooms, hallway & the dining room, freshly painted walls in Pre-school & Under 2’s room and we have just finished painting the Foundation class room. We have a few more finishing touches to do. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while doing this and we hope everyone enjoys our rooms as much as we do! Outdoors is our next area for improvements!
MAY HALF TERM: - Children attending term time funded sessions only, will be on holiday for one-week half-term break, W/C 25th May when funding is not available. All stretched funded and paying term time will still be in nursery this week.
BANK HOLIDAY CLOSING: - Please note, nursery will be closed on the following Bank Holiday Monday 4th and Monday 25th May. Have a lovely long weekend!
CELEBRATIONS:- May’s celebrations start on the 8th May with the 81st Anniversary of VE Day (Victory Day in Europe), which marked the end of the war in Europe and WWII as a whole. We will celebrate by making flags, dancing to music and having a singalong! On the 24th May is Elmer’s Day, in nursery we love Elmer the elephant! Elmer Day is a chance to celebrate the importance of friendship, kindness and inclusivity. From 26th to 31st is Eid-Al-Adha, which is a big festival where children will be taking part in a fun celebration in nursery!
